I've seen the phrase "feel as though crawling out of skin" alot in the DSM for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.
I've had states of sort of anxious, dysphoria and internal agitation where the only thing I could do was to go to sleep---if I can fall asleep, that is. This scares me, because I think that my mother did the same thing.I often find that I don't describe things the way other people do. I majored in Classics and love 18th and 19th century literature. One way I get into trouble is by using words in ways which are perfectly correct, but slightly archaic and which others don't understand.
Has anyone experienced this "crawling out from under the skin" Experiences of other standard diagnostic criteria more fully described would be much appreciated. I'm seeing the psychiatrist on Wednesday. Feedback before then would be really appreciated.
Thanks

I've used that very term for a mixed bipolar state with my pdoc. To me it means being so agitated that I could do nothing except keep moving and being horribly uncomfortable- both physically and mentally. Can you really sleep (without drugs) when you feel this way? I agree with Kev, express yourself in the way that is most comfortable for you, I'm sure your pdoc wil understand. Take care.

I get the crawling out of my skin almost every day late in the afternoon. So does my daughter. It's like my legs and feet and hands all need to do something. Sometimes I get the shakes. My daughter rubs her feet together really hard, and scratches her skin, especially behind her knees and elbows. I have mentioned the feelings (more than once) to both my p-doc and hers, and they thought nothing of it.
I'd be very interested in other's experiences with those itchy, creepy crawly feelings. I know that is has something to do with CNS stimulants (i.e. Ritalin, Adderall, maybe Bupropion?) but I just don't have the knowledge to figure it out.

Q: What drugs are you or your daughter currently taking?

Currently, my daughter is only taking Adderall. I'm taking Adderall, Amitriptyline, and Wellbutrin (Bupropion).
