Help! I Need an Excuse for Missing Work...

Posted by Janice on January 27, 2000, at 19:15:06

Other than anything to do with mental illness.

I'm going to be starting some psychological testing; which will take me away from work for 3 hours, once a week for at least a month.

I also see my pdoc once a week for 1 hour; this takes me away from work for 2 hours.

I have no problems getting the time off work since it is medical, but sooner or later someone will be asking why I am having so many tests and appointments, and why I continue to have doctor appointments every week.

The truth is not an option.

So does anyone know of any illnesses that require substantial testing and then weekly monitoring (I could perhaps get the pdoc appointments down to every 2 weeks). I don't want it to be anything serious (like cancer) because I don't want to be monitoring myself emotionally to potentially being on death's doorstep.
Like to keep my lies simple.

Thanks in advance, Janice.

How about, "it is a medical issue, and I would prefer to keep the specifics private, thank you."

Or, severe allergies that require weekly treatments, shots, after an initial comprehensive testing process.

What about saying you have chiropracter's appointments or physical therapy?

great replies. Allergies are out because I actually have them and get treated on my lunch hour. Plus, they only keep you for 25 minutes after the shot (I'll be away from the office for 2 to 3 hours, once or twice a week)

Noa, I'm going to look at the other illnesses you mentioned in your e-mail; and Cass, I'm keeping physiotherapy in mind. I like it because often people who go to physiotherapy have to work-out at the gym for an hour or two. In Canada, this is usually done after office hours; but maybe, just maybe, I'll also be visiting an orthopaedic surgeon at times on top of the physiotherapy. (a lie with potential).

I am this concerned because this is a new job, and I'm seriously liking it. At my last (long term) job, the pdoc worked in the same building where I did; so I would visit him on my lunch hour once a week.

Off to do some research on the web, thanks again, Janice.
