I took ritalin for ADD for quite some time but my doc and I both want to stop it and try an antidepressant instead. I want to try something that targets norepenephrine. Has anyone here taken both desipramine and Reboxetine? If so how did the side effect profile compare? Was the desi worse due to anticholinergic effects? I want to start a treatment soon but Rebox wont be out for a few months here in the U.S. and maybe desipramine would be ideal. If they were worse though I think that I would wait. Any feedback is appreciated.

People don't know yet about mixing the two. No studies in US, etc.
I have Rebox but my shrink won't start me on it till it's approved. I do take Desip., only 50mg so far but it is helping.Phil

You might have better luck posting your question on a United Kingdom depression board where they have more experience with reboxetine.

Desipramine was the best anti-depressant I've tried. Actually the only AD that ever worked for me. I'm an adult with ADHD.
The very most, major fantastic benefit of desipramine was the incredible sex life I had on it. don't know anything about the other AD. Let us know how it is when you try it.

The main side effects I noticed on rebox. were increased heartrate, constipation, flushing, INSOMNIA, some dry mouth. So not side-effect free, but (I think) fewer potential side-effects than desiprimine. Probably more expensive, too, when it does come out! I found that it lifted my mood somewhat, but didn't really help any with motivation, anhedonia etc--just brought me out of utter misery. Hope that was somewhat helpful... BTW, last I heard, rebox. should be available in March.
