blah blah can;t sleep

Posted by Rach on January 7, 2003, at 8:54:06

Had I stuck out uni, I would graduate this year with a science degree and a law or arts degree.

I'm terrified. What if I spend the rest of my life as a secretary, sitting alone at home with my stuffed bear? What if I remain trapped int this struggle for money forever? What if I can never sleep properly again because I'm too busy sobbing for what I've lost? What if I live out this meagre existance as a half qualified, over qualified, inexperienced hack? Become the world's greatest extra. The universe's highest underachiever. The guinness book of records holder for the most things started but never completed. What do I do if I've already made the biggest mistake of my life???

I left uni because of the pressure I felt to constantly succeed. This is worse. What I am now forcing myself to do is worse. At least uni was easy. I got top marks without even attending classes. An IQ of something ridiculously high and I'm begging for a reception position. What's happened to me?

(No offence to those that do office work, it was just always expected that I would have the PA, not be one. It's not a job that occupies me happily.)

I really believe, though its hard at the moment, you are on the right path.. and one day, your light will be noticed by everyone!!

Just get that job on neighbours first.. Do you realise how addicted to that show I am??!! *l*

Thanks Nik. I'm feeling lots better today after sleep and after ranting. It's very easy to get scared at 1am. Plus, those thoughts have been festering away since December when my course finished and I suddenly found myself back out in the 'real world'.

You're not the only one. My brother has an English girlfriend, and I think she's counting on seeing me on Neighbours soon too! :)

It's one of those shows that people will never admit to watching (unless they're under 12). Everyone bags the shit out of it, even those that secretly watch it and love every second.

I can take it or leave it myself. I'll watch it if it's on, but won't make any special effort.

As far as actors go, every actor and teacher will completely tear it to pieces, and loudly proclaim that they are 'too good for neighbours!' But if they were ever offered a part, they'd probably beg on their knees. Long hard hours, not particularly challenging in respect to artistic merits, but with a nice big regular pay check to go with it and some industry exposure (although its debatable as to whether its good or bad exposure. But hey, bad is better than none!)

Get this - most movies will film every scene anything from 8 to over 50 times. Most tv series will film around 4 - 8 takes. Neighbours does it in 1; 2 if you're really lucky!

That is like an episode of Seinfeld, where he is ashamed to admit he watches Melrose Place.

BTW, I think the daily soap operas in the US are filmed without, or with minimal, retakes.

Yeah, but Neighbours is really high quality programming!!! *l* And they will need that flick replacement (I preume the wondrous Miss Vallance must leave soon now she's such a highly sought after pop star!).. (YOu do know I'm just messin' with ya I hope!)

Oh yeah.. Holly Vallance recently complained in a tabloid news paper than British females go out weraing too few clothes!!! Yeah right.. has she looked in the mirror lately??? I;'m still dubious as to whether she can actually sing.. her songs os far have been sooo heavily engineered, and she so obviously only mimes on TV.

Then.. I do seem to ahve a calander in my kitchen of Kylie not wearing much at all (ie, they're all underwear shots!!) I'll never forgive my brother for buying that for my hubby!!

Nearly time for Neighbours now!! Yay!! *lol*

:) Ha ha! Noa, as Neighbours almost seems to be on par in quality with American soapies, I'm not surprised that they use similar filming techniques! :)

Flick has already left over here, I think. End of last season. Some goss: Her little sister is leaving, too, but was asked to stay for another 6 months so they both didn't leave the show at once. But to replace Flick, now there's Delta Goodrem, and she can actually sing, and write her own songs.

She sang live at an Australian awards night. I didn't see it, but apparently it left little doubt about exactly how much engineering needs to be used to cover her voice up!

Have I told you the story about my friend who was with Flick's Dad (real name Shane) on NYE? (not this one just gone, but the 2001-2002 NYE) She's my age, so 20 at the time. And she is gorgeous. All night she was talking about how she had standards and that she had a list that a guy had to meet before she would kiss him. Things like
* good looking
* 21 - 25
* tall
* blue eyes
* black hair
* well built

Her list was about 10 items long. And then she goes for Shane who's at least 40, short, overweight... She went back to his place and spent the night chatting with him and Flick's older sister (they only kissed, it went no further). He is still messaging her and calling her on an odd occasion. He's actually over with you at the moment, with Joel, doing pantos.

My friend almost got Shane to admit who was sleeping with who on the neighbours set, but the most she managed was that he was sleeping with someone in his tv family, and that there were some married people sleeping with unmarried people. Oh, the gossip!
