My Dr. has started me on 150mg Wellbutrin twice a day. I got severe insomnia, didn't sleep for 4 days, so he reduced the dose to 150mg once a day for a week or two, then back up to twice a day.
My question is, once I get back to twice a day, how long can I expect the insomnia to continue (assuming that it returns). My doctor won't tell me.

Rick, when does your doc want you to start your second dose? If it is too late in the day, you could end up causing the insomnia. On the other hand, you do not want to take them too close together. Your doc does not know how long the insomnia would continue if it returns. There are a lot of options to work on this. I would consider taking something at night such as trazadone, amitryptyline etc...for sleep. It might be that 150 mg of Wellbutrin in the am will do just fine. Also, consider trying the immediate release, which has a much shorter half life and therfore would not result in quite as much in your bloodstream at bedtime. Good luck

I also take Wellbutrin SR - 200 mg on rising and 200 mg at bedtime. When I first started taking it, I developed insomnia too. My doctor said Wellbutrin is very activating and prescribed .5 mg of Klonopin to take before I go to bed, which I'm still taking six months later. Another thing that helped at night is going to bed immediately after taking Wellbutrin.

I start Wellbutrin the first of August. I didn't sleep hardly for days! It was awful! By the end of the week I thought I was going crazy emotionally. But it passed, I started sleeping fine.
I am on two 150mg per day. I can miss doses now and then without noticing. The funny thing I have noticed is my dreaming habits. When my dosage is regular and steady, I don't remember my dreams. If i miss a dose or two, I have the most memorable Wild dreams!
I have experience EXTREME fatigue, almost an inability to wake up, if I have missed several doses. That only happened once but it was so strange. I felt I could have slept for a week.
Other than that, I don't have jitters, an uppered feeling or anything of that sort. It has really evened out my moods and calmed me overall.
This is the end of the thread.
