Paxil "Hellish" withdrawl

Posted by Keith Elliott on November 12, 1999, at 15:46:11

This may be an old question but I can barley read or type from qutting 30 mg of paxil cold turkey. I lost my insurance so starting again not an option. How long will this last. I hate this feeling and it is driving my ...ummm up the wall.

Hi Keith. Sounds like a rocky road. Sorry.

When I quit Paxil it took about a week and a half or two for the withdrawals to go away. Another option to make it easier than just waiting it out would be to call your doc and see if he has Prozac samples on hand. Most docs do. With its very long halflife, taking a dose every few days or even once a week can ween you off much smoother. Or, there may likely be Paxil samples on board too. Then you could do the slower taper down method. Either way, might want to check around your doc or other local clinics for free samples. The pharmaceutical sales reps usually make sure the local docs have free samples on hand. They're always looking for new customers ya know. Might as well take advantage of it since it's free, and you don't need much.

Keith, I feel for you -- I've been there myself. Wish I could be upbeat about it, but my withdrawal stuck with me for five weeks or so.

(1) how did you lose your insurance? is COBRA coverage an option?

(2) Visit this site: http://www.nami.org/update/freemed.htm. Many pharmaceutical companies have free med programs for folks who can't pay. The one that I would recommend, since it worked to get me off of paxil, is wellbutrin from Glaxo Wellcome. The number for them that's listed on that page is 800/722-9294.

Hang in there ... you CAN get through this.

Bob

I have experienced this too..I recently went off due to my script lapsing for several days..I know how you feel..The symptoms lasted for several days. And it usually takes at least three to fours days to go away once I get back on the med. I didn't realize how powerful this drug is on the body..My doc says that it should be a gradual weaning over a period of three weeks when going off Paxil..

Hey Keith!!
