During the day has memory outages also He does not know who I am or whwere he is, etc. I am very worried about him. Should the pdoc do some pet scans, eeg, etc.

I don't know if it's the meds, but I do know that mania caused holes in my memory ranging from mundane things to very important events. Getting stable on a med takes awhile, 5 days is not long enough to be sure that it's the med. I'm sure it's difficult for you to see this happening. Panicing doesn't help ;) Do make sure the pdoc knows about the spedifics of your friend's memory. Good luck.
