I'm taking Serzone (have been for almost two years). I liked it because it didn't affect my ability to have orgasms. However, the serzone doesn't seem to be working - I feel tired all the time either due to a recurrence of depression or due to serzone. I'm thinking of switching to effexor. Does this cause sexual dysfunction in women?

YES. It changes the whole process. Arousal, sensation, and orgasm. Sometimes not able to have orgasm at all, sometimes do, but it is different, often sort of a "perfunctory" orgasm, ie, not much fireworks. The other meds I'm on seem to modify these effects a bit (serzone, ritalin). I noticed when I had a cold and took cold medicine, the sexual effects were lessened more. I have read here of an antihistamine (that was probably what was in my cold meds) that people take to counteract the sexual side effects of ADs.

Is this also true for Celexa? I tried Serzone and also found that it didn't interfere. However, Luvox and Zoloft have the same unfortunate effects you describe.

Effexor increased my sex drive (from Zoloft), but
it did make it much more difficult to reach orgasm.
I didn't realize how much until I was switched to
Wellbutrin... no pun intended, but the orgasms came
back with a bang... intense, easy to achieve, etc.janey girl

Effexor made it different for me, but more intense when I got there. Periactin, or cyproheptidine, made a difference for me in this regard. It's an anti-histimine, and it made the sensations so much more vivid I can't tell you.
Also, my experiences recently tell me that while all alone it was harder to make myself scream, with a partner it seems pretty easy and all together earth shaking!
Effexor is my miracle drug. Good luck, and may the same be true for you.
This is the end of the thread.
