There are some great websites, like Dr. Ivan's Depression Central, that have links to both the official American and European diagnostic criteria for all types of depression.
Briefly, Dysthymia is a chronic form of depression, more mild than an accute major depression, in which the person feels depressed more days than not. Some people, like me, have what is sometimes refered to as "double depression", which means having dysthymia and on top of that having periodic bouts of major depression.
