Has anyone had any success using DHEA as either relief for mild depression or as an augmentation for a waning anti- depressant? If so, at what doses?

I am trying pregnenolone instead and it does seem
to help with mental acuity, energy levels, and my
exercising. I am also taking a calcium, potassium,
and magnesium supplement after reading about a
well done study which showed some improvement with
these elements. But ultimately, I will be back searching through
the various meds. I'm taking a break because I
can't seem to stay on them very long without
getting wound up and needing mood stabilizers. So I
am just trying to ride the waves, up and down,
and see if I can deal with things through diet
and exercise. I certainly feel better physically,
but things are more intense psychologically. For
now I'm trying to deal with things day to day.One thing that has improved is my artistic life
and that brings me great satisfaction even if it
is at the expense of moodiness...Hope all is well with you,
Sean.

>Never heard of pregnenolone. Can you get it at the healthfood store? Any reasons why you chose it over DHEA? Do you mean you're taking the diet and exercise route over any ad's at all? You're brave, but I may be trying to follow suit as soon as I'm out for summer vacation. Take care.

Pregnenolone is a precursor to DHEA and is called
a "neurosteroid" whatever that is. Go to
PUBMED and look up articles on it: they are
fascinating. I think it is safer and has fewer
side effect from DHEA. I'm taking it every other
day but also concerned that it may be a bad idea.
The fact is, nobody knows what altering these
proto-steroids will do to human beings on a
long-term basis. We can say that rats live 25%
longer, appear smarter and stronger, but hey,
we aren't rats...As for my change in meds, I've been doing the
med thing for 15 years and I just want to see
what it is like for a while. Maybe I'm making
a mistake, but the poly drug experience is not
my idea of fun either. I'm washing out I
guess. At the moment I feel really good,
clear, centered. It likely won't last (nothing
does with my brain!) but at least I have
a baseline to work with. I write songs and
poems and when this is flowing, it's all good.
Take care,Sean.
