He does it cuz he can. It reminds me of abusive relationships where the victims feel so demoralized, helpless and stuck - so the abuse continues.
Until they feel strong enough to leave, they will continue to be treated the same way. It's too sad.
We can't change anyone but ourselves. Maybe you could seek shelter elsewhere.

Perhaps Dr Bob is sometimes absent because, in between lecturing, grading papers, reading medical literature, writing research papers, editing journals, attending research conferences, etc. -- perhaps he simply doesn't have all that much time to spend on Psycho-Babble.
Perhaps, as a psychiatrist, he understands the importance of spending quality time with his wife and children, and he chooses to be a good father by using his spare time for his family, instead of neglecting his family and using his spare time to field abuse from angry posters on Psycho-Babble.

Perhaps.He also could be " writing research papers"(your words) about interpersonal relationships and conflicts here. He could use this thread.
I must say that I don't see the "abuse" from the posters towards Bobs. There have been many complaints and alot of fear voiced.....I guess it's all in the way you see how an administrator wants to run a goldmine for research papers.

I totally agree with Jamal. Why does everyone here insist that Bob "fix everything?" What needs fixing? What do you want from this site - if you want a place where you can get support from fellow babblers - then you have everything you need. Why can't you be more grateful. Stop being so demanding. Maybe this is why other relationships in your life fail. Show some respect, please, for a man who lives an academic life, who has dozens of other commitments, and who, in spite of all the commitments, still manages to come to babble occasionally and respond very thoroughly and insightfully. Why can't you respect that?
And Muffled, please do not use foul language as the suject heading for your post. You used the asterix, but it's glaringly obvious how ugly your language is, and how insolent and ungrateful your tone is. Your sunject heading is very offensive to many here, and is like a slap in the face to all of us who open this board. Please realize than not everyone shares your opinion of Dr. Bob, and do not use foul language to "get attention" because it is very rude, offensive, and off-putting. As is the general tone of your whole post.
Frankly I am expecting to get a PBC for this, and I will risk it, because I feel strongly about what I am saying. It is really off-putting to come here and see so many people soooo demanding, like babies, insisting that Dr. Bob come "fix" things. Maybe what needs fixing for you is not the board at all. Maybe your anger is displaced. Ever consider that? Dr. Bob is a physician, and many other things as well (as Jamal pointed out). How many people here can claim to be even a fraction as busy as he is? Don't whine or complain.

I don't think the abuse really bothers him too much from what i gather. I think he understands that some of it is in fact somewhat justified, and given the nature of the people here, hes GOT to expect theres gonna be 'issues'.
Thats nice you trying to back him up :-) but he a big boy, I think he can take care of himself!!
If he is a dad, I REALLY hope he does spend some time with his kids, he seems to travel a fair amt.
As far as abuse from babblers, he tends to just ignore it, I don't think it takes much of his time. Cost/benefit ratio....

I am trying to grow from the opinion that I am an utterly disgusting piece of s***. You do not know my history or me or I am sure you would not say these things. sorry you are sad muffs.. it makes me kinda sad too. But why are you angry now about it?? It already happened and is over with??? I don't know, maybe i missed something?? I don't agree with all the pain and hurt is caused either.. It is one thing to apologize and really mean it but if the behavior just continues then the apology doesn't count for much, does it?? take care muffled. If this is the way it has always been then i guess we can just expect it and know that it is just the way it is.. maybe a new doc will open a site somewhere for us..

The two guidelines most relevant to this post are the rules against posting anything which could lead others to feel accused or put down; and the rule which states that, if one believes that a post has violated board guidelines or is otherwise offensive, one does not post that belief publicly on the boards. That is exactly why the notification system exists, and I would ask that you and all other Babblers use it in future.
